Journal Entry - 9th of June, 2003
Life has died down in it's excitement level considerably since my last rant...It has taken this long to have enough interesting things to say...and I think Ill sill be pusing my luck. Anyhow...as always this update comes with its compliment of new photos on my website...Including a new feature that lets you view only the new photos...woohoo!
Some of the 'new' photos are actually from a while back in Colorado at the Colorado Shred Symposium 4...if you dont know what that means...have a look!
Also I will be archiving my tedious notes to you guys on my website, so you can read this stuff there too...
Well, lets see...it all started 3.5 weeks ago, I was on my first fast in years. This time I drank 6 cups of black tea before noon had come...no food in the stomach. I was at work and I gave my co-workers a good laugh with my delirium and confusion. Why? Well, it was for a good cause, It was for a memorial fund that the owners of the Rainbow Hostel have been running to build a clinin in Milawi, Africa. When I accepted the challenge, I was told that the other 'fasters' had an unfair advantage of collecting donations over me becuase I was new in town and I didn't know anyone. Little did they know that I used to volunteer for SYRCL...muhhahhahaa. Anyway, I managed to collect over 100 Euros in sponsership for my feat of abstaining from the wonderfulness, gloriousness, and umm greatness of eating. The empty hole in my stomach was soon cured...After the fast was a benefit BBQ...with more food than my poor shriveled stomach could handle.
Then some other stuff happened....I cant remember it all...A few nights out, some nice hikes up waterfalls...ah yes...my birthday.
May 31st started with a pounding headache from a late night out before...I was greeted merily by a can of heiniken, which ofered it's assistance to my torn head. Its amazing but true...drinking cures hangovers!! We met a pair from Dublin in the kitchen making sangria, Laura and Vinny. The games begain. The Silent Football began! (See http://theimpax.vze.com/silentfootbag.asp ) This was quite a night to remeber. Shawna, Myself, Mick, Katie, Vinnie, and Laura battled our ability to be witty with increasing intoxication. In the end I think someone OTHER than me lost, I I ended up taking the Ultimate Torment (which obvously wasnt so tormenting...at least not with that state of mind) which invovled going swimming, err wading in the pond out front...I dont think I slept that night...and no hangover!! woohoo! Well that makes me 26...guess I am supposed to at olrder or something.
Today just returned to Dingle from a week away with Shawna. Last Wednesday we went to Doolin, a small town on the west coast in County Clare. We stayed at the Seacrest B&B for 2 nights, which was run by a woman who was (almost eirily) too nice. But she was very helpful and on Wednesday when we got soaking wet trying to reach the CLiffs of Moore, by swamp, she dried our clothes for us. We got sun the day before the hike, and the day we left...but no more. We hung out O'Conners Pub and listened to the high-tech sound system they employed for the musicians (We wernt in the main room...but it sounded like it!) And I bought the new SOLAS cd from a new music shop that opened up there recently (And damnit...I was just going to go in and ask if I could fill my water bottle up!) but the cd is great. Doolin is a great little town with very expensive Fairies to the Aran Islands (Get a ticket to Inisheer...even if your going to Inishmoor...) Also, make sure you bring enough CASH when you go.
On Friday we got on the fairie to Inishmoor (and we paid for a ticket to Inishmoor...doh) but we were ok becuase they DO have cash machines ON the Island. The boat was a small boat so the wavesgave us a good shake. Shawna and I tried to see if we could stand up on the deck without using the rails, while others inside held bags over their mouths. The sea and it's swells were absolutley gorgeous.
That day we walked cross-country through the land of rocks and ended up on the top of some very impressive cliffs. We watched as the wind blew the waterfalls back onto the land as the water tried to escape over the edges of the cliffs. We visited the Black Fort which was built on a finger of land with cliffs on 3 sides and a massive rock wall on the fourth. We got back to the hostel and slept on our slightly sunburned faces and got up and ate our free breakfast of cereal and toast.
Saturday We got to Galway and the Sun was still beaming...amazing! We went to the Salmon Weir hostel and met up with Miranda, who has been travelling with Shawna. Galway is a great city...and it was happinin' there, people covered the streets. Nothing all too exciting occure there, one of my favorite parts was waking up the swans that sleeping on the water.
Today it started raining again, and I headed back to Dingle...a fine day to back inside working again.
Plans are in place to begin a tour of the footbag tounaments this summer. Unfortunatley I am out of practice...but that will soon change...
Right-O, Fantastic Stuff...talk to ya later!
