With Footbag, Life is good...8 days a week!
The German Footbag Open 2004

As usual the Frankfurt residents pushed themselves to make a fantastic weekend of footbag and parties for everyone. Aside from the 'Reign of Terror' all went well and even that added abit of spice to the program.

We had it all:

-Mud-sliding competitions
-swimming in the fountain at the wee hours of the morning
-hours and hours of fun with poor, poor hannes (we love you by the way!)
-exciting net matches with powerful displays of acrobatics
-quality shred and as usual...loads of new players who have playing for only a year and are *way* better than me :D

...

I got to the tourney a few days early as is my custom...I got to witness first hand how much work running a tournament can be...these guys worked their asses of. I arrived to 30 degree weather, a nice improvement over 20 and under here in Ireland. But we worried all week over the threat of reainn on thursday and friday. And sure enough thursday came and so did the rain. And a look at the weather map for Friday showed a strip of grey over the middle of Germany, incidentally right over frankfurt...with large Exclamation marks! and thunder symbols...I wont forget stuf doing his routine when the Reign of Terror began...thundering from the heavens above..yet his freestyle routine went on and was fueled by the sound of a thousand cattle running along a steel deck. Then it was decided that the mud pit in front of the stage should be put to use...and what better way to do that than mud-sliding jousting!

Esprit was in the house handing out their high quality footbags...but in fairness the ladies were lovely :) And we had Vannessa and (?cant remember her name) providing us with quality food. And I never went to far without Dexter putting a Pilner in my hand :)

Friday night was spectacular...near the end of the golf game...we were trying to golf the bull's tail with an amazing sunset which completely changed the color of the world on one side and a full rainbow on the other side. It was a nice lift of the hearts after the rain as we headed into the final day...

Saturday we didnt bother with another potential rainstorm and headed to the indoor site...a good desicion as it turned out. We then got to watch all the lovely freestly ladies perform their routines...one of my favorite parts of a footbag tournament :D all of them had fantistic routines...making my job as a job all the more difficult...but at least I had a nice view :)

Later was a battle of two amazing net players Andy and Flo, followed by the Andy and Henning together vs the Berliner's Patrick and Phillip in the doubles final. Both of these finals games were amazing to watch...i have a couple nice photos form these along side this write-up. Congratulations to all the Frankfurt players for raking up the meddles...but just like portugal in football euros this year...HOMEFIELD ADVANTAGE!!

That takes us to the final location...the KoZ...we had the finals for freestyle which was absolutely packed with spectators. Then awards ceromony where I had deja-vu from Lisa. (didnt she just get a medal?..there she is again!) and then the party! ... I have to say i sort of missed the party...I was stuck on the 4-square court...litteraly...they made a rule where I had to stand on the cross in the middle of the court. Then I roped Andy in being my partner for doubles...i figured...here is a guy that just got first place in singles and doubles...how can I go wrong?! When I got back upstairs the others had set up a stand and were charging 5 euro to have your photo take with the superstar Hannes...well actually they didnt, but they *should* have! Then there was the game between Me, Dexter and ?sorry cant remember? Schubi I think, the goal to retrive the following five items from someone of the opposite sex:

-a ciggarette
-a phonenumber
-a dance
-a drink
-a shoe lace

Anna...you can have your shoe lace back in copenhagen!

Silly boys...

It was getting late now, people were leaving...we ended up over by the fountain somehow and even more unusual was the idea that swimming in the fountain would be _fun_. At this point chris was pretty easy to convince to do just about anything. And so was I. So off come the clothes! No one was quite as bold (stupid) as me to actually go IN the fountain...but what happened next was priceless. Poor chris was trying to pull his trousers up...he was trying so hard..and he just couldnt figure out why they wouldnt come up. Phillip and Fuji came over to help him...they thought he might need a little encouragement so they began dancing in a circle around him. After 5 minutes of gut-wrenching laughter chris discovered that he had to step off the legs of his trousers to pull them up...and for this he earned a round of applause from all those present.

Well that just about ended the event...and another great gathering of footbaggers around europe. A big Thank you to Milli for driving me around on Sunday in her super-classy chill-mobil :D A big thank you to phillip for all his work and being a great friend!

See you all in copenhagen!

peace
