** Overview **
Silent footbag is a social drinking game to be played with 4 or more players sitting together in a circle so that every player can see every other player. It started as a drama students game (or at least this is where the game was first introduced in our region of Northern California). It has evolved into a widley played party game which in general gets the entire room in stitches of laughter. The object of the game is to NOT be the first player to receive 5 penance points. This is done by being part of a group effort to keep the ball moving around the circle of players. The ball is an invisable, 'silent' footbag which is passed throught the circle via 4 basic moves. It is extremely important in silent footbag to be courteous and thoughtful of your fellow participants. Drinking is done in unison so that players gradually become intoxicated as the game progresses. There are never times when a player must 'take a drink' because of breaking the rules. Instead you are punished by social banter and the threat of the 'Ultimate Torment' for breaking the rules. The 'Ultimate Torment' is given to the player who reaches 5 penance points first (or players in the event that 2 or more players reach 5 at the same time). The Ultimate Torment can be any punishment and will be decided by your fellow silent footbag players.
** Moves **
Thwap: Tap your left or your right knee with your hand once for each time you would like the bag to be passed in the same direction one place in the circle. you may switch back once. you may never thwap to or through yourself. you must make your move clearly: not too fast, not too slow, and not too quiet.
Shrug: Shrug your shoulders as if to say 'I don't know'. You may not shrug if the bag was sent to you with a thwap. When you shrug the bag goes back to whoever passed you the bag
Shroedum:Put your left hand behind your right elbow and using your hand tip your hat (or pretend tip your hat if you are not wearing one). Where you are pointing with your elbow or where you are looking does not matter. When you shroedum the bag goes back to whoever passed you the bag
Zoom: Point your elbow at the person you wish to pass the ball to. You may not put your other hand behind your elbow like with a schroedum.
Golden Rule: no move may be done for the third time in a row.
** Ettiquite **
Players:
-Absolutely no talking unless you are the called on by the dictator....laughing is 100% OK and encouraged
Dictator:
-No accusing players
-No talking when the bag is rolling, until a player raises their hand.
Dictator and Players:
-No pointing
-No swearing
-No misnomering...(calling someone by the wrong name)
-No being disrepectful towards another
** Round Summary **
-it is best if all players begin *sober* and drink every round
-the dicator begins a round with a hat tip 'Hat Tip!'
-the dictator then calls for a 'Complimentary Shwig!' everyone drinks, alchohol is preferred but air and water are ok...only for the sake of getting other players to play
-'All rules are in effect, lets try to keep this bag moving'
-the dictator passes the ball
-players pass the ball until someone sees a mistake. that player raises their hand
-the dictator calls on a player to speak
-the player makes an accusation and/or other statement
-the player being accused is called on to make a defense
-the dictator can then assign them a penalty based on their defense. sometimes the dictator is harsh and sometimes soft, often the dictator asks for suggestions or to take vote.
-when all people who wish to speak have spoken...or if the dictator tires of hearing players speak...s/he begins a new round...
** Penalties **
scrooty-dooty: when a player is disrepectful they may be awarded any number of scrooty-dootys based on the severity of their behaviuor. the dictator will count to three and then everyone may point at the player and say scrooty-dooty once for each scrooty-dooty awarded. during this time other players may break any ettiquite rule. showing any enjoyment during a scrooty-dooty is *very* disrepectful.
penance point: the dictator may award a penence point to any player who breaks the rules or is being extremely disrespectful. once a player reaches 5, the game is over and the player(s) with 5 points receive the ultimate torment
ka-hootz: if two players (or sometimes more) are working against the circle together (or in rare cases *not* together) then they may be given a ka-hootz. ka-hootz is very serious and should never be awarded without several accusations by other players. players who have been found in ka-hootz will share penalties for the rest of the game...if a scrooty-dooty is awarded to one, then they both get it. if a penance point is awarded to one, the other gets one, if one gets the ultimate torment...so does the other (this can lead to some funny ultimate torments that involve both poeple)
** The Ultimate Torment **
-As soon as any player reaches 5 penance points the game ends
-The player or players which reached 5 penance points first will recieve the Ultimate Torment
-All players except those receiving the Ultimate Torment must decide what the Ultimate Torment will be.
-The Ultimate Torment must be carried out by the losers but may try to lobby the group for mercy if they find the Ultimate Torment to be to offensive or against their morals.
