Makin' it and Shakin' it...Todexon 5 Report
|
Whats up everybody? Well its been a while since I wrote to the list, but its also been a while since Ive had much to write about...Footbag anyone??
Right...well the fun begins when footbag players from different cities all join together in one place. This time the place is Prague, and the talk is Todexon 5. Gotta give up for the boyz in this lovely city who continue to push the sport and organize great tournaments...Especially a tournament that is 'More of a party than a tournament' (This a direct quote from 3 CFA (Czech Footbag Association) members: Dexter, Moglum, and that kid who is always doing beatbox)
Now first off..theres is a big problem with Prague for me...this is the price of a pint...20-25 crowns. (33crowns = 1euro) (1euro=$1.20 haha) I know your saying...what the fuck is wrong with you joe...how can this be a problem? Well let me explain that the price of a pint in my current home is 3.20 euros (and up)...if you do the math you will discover that for the price of one pint over here in Ireland you can get 4-5 pints in the Czech Republic...this brings me to my second problem with Prague...Czech beer is really, really good...in fact it makes the options I have for pints in Ireland look like glasses of flat orange soda. So basically when it was time for me to return home, I had to be pulled out of town kicking and screaming...and since Ive gotten home ive been trying extra hard to get people to buy pints for me :) No, im not that bad...but the real point of this blabber is that despite the fact that I remember having a good time and I would like to report it all to ye faithful readers...I don’t exactly remember all if it...so here we go...
The days leading up to Todexon were filled with the usual rounds of shredding sessions, pivo sessions, and laughing about slow-motion sessions. The legacy of Slow-Motion Lives on...with a visit to Vojtas birthday party at the Reagea bar. And I thought I had heard the last of her...but she is famous now. Thursday night we possed down the streets with the ghetto blaster and did some sight-seeing to some of Prague's more notable sites:

Friday was filled with the excitement of players from all over Europe arriving in constant intervals. After the communal dinner at Jama...I set of with a small group to find the after party which was at a club described to be "right across the street from Jama"...walking across the street took some time to start with...there was some rolling and puffing to take of first...then after a short search we decided we couldn’t find the club so we started a hacky-sack circle...the great thing about footbaggers...were *never* bored and we always have a backup plan! Anyway...a half hour later Dexter came and asked why we didn’t go into the club, we answered that we didn’t know where it was..."You are playing footbag right in front of it fools"...
Saturday was the day of the Tournament, held the the good ol' Palac Akropolis. (worlds 2003...ohh the memories...) I found myself waiting at the bar several times being told by the staff that they were 'out of bottles of Pilser Urquell, all we have is velvet on tap'...this was a good laugh...the velvet came out of the tap top to bottom foam...which is grand if you let it settle, but the looks on some of the unsuspecting customers faces as they paid for their pint of 'foam' was priceless. Not able to stand for all of the injustices being handed out, I took it upon myself to locate a shop near the club where I bought two large bags full of .5l bottles of Pilsner Urquell (For those of you that read my report from last summer you may remember that the Pilser Urquell was the 9.5/10 winner of the Prague beer contest scientifically conducted by Myself, Fred Touzelet, and Jacob Wagner)...I bought them for 25crowns a piece (probably got ripped off cause Im a foriegner!)...whereas at the club they were 25crowns for a .3l bottle (and they were always out...) So to mitigate for all the glasses of foam being served, and for all the por people waiting around for bottles to return while missing serious footbag action in the main room, I entered into public service to sell .5l bottles of Pilsner Urquell to the masses...making several trips to the shop and earning many satisfied customers' praises.
The tournament was awsome. Good music for most of the routines...we saw a whole new level of ability from some of the newer women freestylers...we saw some of the best footbag performers in the world...We all watched as Lon almost beat the world champ Vasek at the Shred 30...i helped judge this contest and it was so close that we had to review the video footage over 10 times with extra attention. Either way...I was proud of Lon...for the last 2 years I have been trying to get him to come over to europe and experience the great scene here. Most people over here knew him well from video, but video is never as good as real life. Now he is travelling around europe as I did last summer and visiting various footbag clubs...HEY LON...WHATS UP MAN? How was Vienna? You going to footjam? You lucky bastard! (hes so busy he doesn’t even write me back anymore :)
As with any good tournament...it ends with a bang...in this case we are helped with the newly discovered, technological breakthorugh in 'Woooohooooo!' .... The Vilmosh!! The Vilmost was passed around and the dancing (atop peoples shoulders) began. I spent some time up on the stage during the Hip-Hop battle that was going on...I was taking photos and giving high-fives with a whole bunch of Czechs who's identitys I had know idea of. And somehow I managed to get home...For these stories Im going to have to let the pictures do the talking:

Sunday...our last day...and a day of a whole new era in my footbag career...the day I got hooked on footbag dance. I was first introduced to this in Vienna last summer...with Peter, Stephan, Ali, and Phillip Hanak. I had liked it immediately...But I didn’t get a chance to play in again until Todexon and I fell in love! We played practically the whole day on Sunday...I kept thinking I would go shred or play 4-square...i managed to leave once for a few minutes...but soon I was drawn back into the footbag dance circle. The thing about footbag dance is that its based on the very familiar ol' hacky-sack kicking circle, but there is much more involvment with the other players...infact...when you have the bag everyone is focused on you and 'dancing' around you..your never just standing around waiting for a go at the bag. Some of the moves that these guys that have been doing it for a while now are just simply amazing. Big props to The lady Shaver and Vojta for also getting really invovled in these circles...now that’s 4 cities in europe (Vienna, Frankfurt, Berlin, Prague...please correct me anyone if this list should be bigger) you can go to and find someone to play footbag dance with (wait...5 if you want to come to Dingle, Ireland!)
We finished of our stay in Prague with a visit to the 'best gulash in prague'...played some stupid drinking games (lol)...i said goodbye to lon and the others...and that was the end.
It was FUN everyone! See you all soon.
Peace
